SexEd 2: Flowers, Bees and Other Taboos
The Hungarian organization Co-Efficient, a partner of the HEureka Generator association, decided to create a youth project, the main topic of which was to share knowledge about human sexuality and promote the idea of openness on this topic.
Before the main activity which was the meeting of young people from seven countries, an online preparatory meeting had been organized. We met on the Zoom platform with representatives of the organizations involved in the project. During the meeting we discussed the activities, safety rules, division of responsibilities of partners and how we can actively participate in the implementation of the entire project. HEureka was represented by a member of the board - Karolina Szczepanik.
During the youth exchange, the Polish group was represented by members and volunteers of HEureka Generator, with whom we conducted an online preparatory meeting. The vice-chairman of our association - Ewa Kostrubiec became the leader of the group.
On the morning of August 1, the group set off for Hungary. The journey took a whole day, but our participants arrived smiling and ready for the next eight days of educational adventure.
The place of the meeting was a center situated among the forests of Matrafured near the city of Gyongyos. Upon arrival, we were accomodated in the rooms and met the rest of the group.
We started the second day with various integration games and activities as well as establishing the rules of our stay in the center. We also talked about our expectations towards participation in the project. On that day, the first of the planned cultural evenings took place, during which we presented our organization.
On the third day, we moved on to the main activities - workshops conducted by participants from the Portuguese organization. During the workshops, participants talked about human anatomy, hygiene rules and sexual education in their countries (how it looks like and how it should look like, about sources of knowledge and access to it).
The next day, there was a workshop on sexual orientations - what are people's approach to them, what is the approach to non-heteronormative people in our countries, what names are used, etc. The second part of the workshop was conducted by a participant from Greece, who talked about his experiences as a non-binary person.

During the youth exchange we were also able to take a break from workshops and visit Budapest.
The next day, we had a meeting with local youth, during which the participants tried to pass the knowledge they had acquired in the previous days to the students of 'after school' in Gyongyos.
After the meeting, each of the participants, basing on their notes, answered questions about what they had learned, what this experience gave them and how it affected their perception of the world.

On the last day, we had the opportunity to get acquainted with Hungarian nature a bit, because the workshops that day took place at Lake Poroszlo. After returning to the center, the entire meeting was evaluated and then we had the long-awaited secret friend's reveal.
For our participants it was the first youth exchange after a long break caused by the restrictions related to the COVID-19 pandemic. In the video below, they share their impressions of participating in the project.
