'Let me tell you a story...' is a series of projects and at the same time the name of an informal international network of enthusiasts of living history lessons, managed by our organization. The network engages young people from Poland, Romania, Hungary, Czech Republic, Slovakia, Greece, Cyprus, Latvia, Lithuania, Turkey and Croatia in joint activities. The project 'Let me tell you a story - Grandparents' was the seventh in the last four years.

The main goal this time was to involve in activities not only young participants, but also representatives of older generations from their families. Before the exchange, each participant was asked to talk to their parents or grandparents about how they lived in their youth. We discussed the collected material during the exchange. In addition, we had the opportunity to conduct living history lessons with the parents and grandparents of the participants from the Polish group. The whole was saved in the form of an electronic publication and five video materials presenting the course of all activities.

We conducted project activities from June 15, 2019 to December 14, 2019. We invite everyone to familiarize yourself with their results.

The stories collected in the publication focus, among others, on hard work in the field, children's games, starting a family, growing up during the war, hiding partisans, and persecution by the authorities of the previous system.

The video material presents the youth exchange 'Let me tell you a story - Grandparents'. We have memorized fragments of all the youth exchange daily programme points starting with integration, through the preparation and conducting of living history lessons, and ending with the evaluation of activities.

Some participants of our project had their first contact with living history lessons. There were also those for whom it was another such experience. We asked both to share with us how they enjoyed the exchange and the living history lessons that they conducted.

Most of the living history lessons with seniors were conducted in Zwierzyniec. One of them took place at flat of the senior. This time the heroes were the grandparents and parents of the participants from the Polish group, who told us about life during World War II, about the reality of the communist system, or about what life in the countryside used to be like.

We split into small, international groups and visited several classes at C.K. Norwid Secondary School in Krasnystaw. We talked to students about our project, what youth exchanges are and what our living history lessons looked like.

After meetings with students at school, we went to Zamość, where in the city center we distributed leaflets about our project and informed inhabitans about the possibilities of the Erasmus+ program. We also found time to meet the historical reconstruction group at the city walls. We invite you to check the material!
